Common questions

How much yarn do I need for a blanket?

A throw blanket (50"×60") typically needs 1,500-2,500 yards of worsted weight yarn. Use the Project Yardage tab for an exact estimate based on your specific dimensions.

How do I calculate yarn from a partial skein?

Weigh the partial skein and your full skein. Divide partial weight by full weight, then multiply by total yardage. The Partial Skein tab does this for you.

What does yarn weight mean?

Yarn weight is the thickness of the yarn, not how heavy it is. Ranges from 0 (lace, thinnest) to 7 (jumbo, thickest). See our reference table above.

How do I convert yarn weights between countries?

The US uses names (worsted, DK), Australia/UK uses ply numbers (8-ply, 10-ply). Use the Yarn Weight Converter tab to translate between systems.

What is gauge in knitting?

Gauge is how many stitches and rows fit in a 4-inch square with your yarn + needle combination. It determines your final project size.
